Cultural Heritage Resources Assessment

A cultural heritage resource assessment is done by a person from the tribe whose traditional territories the proposed harvesting will take place. This person is selected by the band for their knowledge of culture and traditions.

The cultural resources assessment examines the harvest area and it’s proximity to culturally important features, and if harvesting may potentially harm these attributes. The traditional and cultural features that the cultural surveyor examines are closely guarded secrets and are not disclosed to even the company. After examining the harvest area the cultural surveyor makes their recommendations or proposes changes to the area which has been proposed to be harvested.
