Value-added Forestry Strategy

Developing a strong value-added strategy is an integral part of our vision to create a truly responsible and sustainable business model, while producing high quality, high value products, and stable, worthwhile jobs in the local communities. The strategy developed was based on taking smaller steps then building onto successes. We began with a salvage program using wood that would normally be not put to use, then began a cedar shakes and shingle custom cut program, and then moved toward producing dimensional lumber.

Western Red Cedar Shakes and Shingles

In 2009 we began producing high quality Western Red Cedar shakes and shingles through our custom cut program. The wood used for this was sourced from both our regular operations, and our wood salvage operations.

Western Red Cedar Dimensional Lumber

In 2009 we had also began to develop our dimensional lumber custom cut program. This allowed us to produce high quality cedar lumber, decking, posts, and beams. Then based on the successes we had with this program we began to develop our very own local milling capacity.
